| It wasn’t anywhere near a banner year for cinema in Hong Kong. With an extremely low number of major distributor films released commercially in 2005 – under 50 – the pickings for the best of the year are slim. The Hong Kong Film Awards are set for April 8, with Election, Seven Swords, and Perhaps Love duking it out with The Myth (!) and Initial D (!!) for best film. All due respect, dude, that’s not good. Now, take it how you will, there’s not much to choose from on the stinker side either. A lot of dross flopped out this year, but no turkeys so huge the Mayflower could be feasted. Still, we can always waft our potpourri at some misses – and when that happens, look out. Here then, our annual tribute to the bad, the ugly and the god-awful. |
